You could buy your own domain name and use the registrars free services to point it at your free web space but this has certain disadvantages over having your web site hosted properly.

1) It looks unprofessional.
2) Search engines will index your site, but it will be indexing at its free web space so if you need to move your web site the search engines will send people to your old site.
3) As the free pointing of your domain commonly uses a frame so that yourname.com is in your browsers address bar. If the refresh button on the browser is pressed instead of the current page reloading the home page will reload.
4) Free web hosts often put advertisements on your site.

To buy your own domain name I recommend 123-reg.co.uk who are established, one of the cheapest and have a user friendly control panel.
